“Anxiety for patients” as GP surgery at risk after company hands back contract

Services at Corporation Road Surgery will continue until 29 August

There is doubt over whether a GP surgery in Butetown will continue after the practice handed its contract back to the health board.

GP services at Corporation Road Surgery will end on 29 August 2025.

There are currently 3,000 patients registered with the surgery who will continue to receive care until this date.

The surgery was run by management company eHarley Street - which was criticised in a BBC report late last year over safety, staffing and supply concerns.

It is the sixth surgery handed back to health boards across Wales by the Leicestershire-based business.

Cardiff and Vale University Health Board said: “The Health Board appreciates this will cause anxiety for patients and the local community, but we are working hard to find a solution to maintain services for the patients of Corporation Road Surgery.

“Our focus is to ensure services are provided closer to home and together with our stakeholders we will establish a way forward to ensure future provision of GP services to all existing patients.

“We will keep the local community updated with details of future provision as we work through a solution,” adding they are “committed” to resolving the matter.
