The Chief Constable of South Wales Police has been recognised in the New Year Honours list.

CC Jeremy Vaughan has been awarded the King’s Police Medal for distinguished service - one of 20 people awarded the medal across Wales, England and Northern Ireland.

Mr Vaughan has had a 28-year policing career, joining South Wales Police in 2016 before becoming Chief Constable in November 2020.

He previously served for two decades in a variety of roles with North Wales Police.

Reacting to the news of the honour, Deputy Chief Constable Mark Travis said: “It is worthy recognition of his years of service to policing in Wales and across the UK, his leadership, and his determination both to support his officers, staff and volunteers in South Wales Police, and to ensure that we as an organisation serve the communities of South Wales as our first priority.”

  • The honours system celebrates the people who go above and beyond to change the world around them for the better.

    This could be someone who has:

    • selflessly volunteered their time and efforts;

    • gained the respect of their peers;

    • displayed moral and physical courage;

    • or showed real innovation and entrepreneurship.

    Anyone can receive an award, and anyone can nominate someone as long as they demonstrate exceptional contribution the person has made.

    There are many Orders, Decorations and Medals.

    The King’s Medals are awarded to those public servants working in the UK’s fire and rescue, police and ambulance services.

Mr Vaughan is also the Welsh policing lead for gender equality, serves as one of two vice-chairs of the National Police Chiefs’ Council and was appointed to the Gorsedd Cymru in 2019 for services to the Welsh language.
