A high school in Canton has been praised for creating a safe environment following an inspection late last year.
Fitzalan High School, on Leckwith Road, was commended by education watchdog Estyn for “establishing a culture that celebrates its notably diverse community” after it was inspected in November.
The report added that the English-medium school, which has 1,830 pupils on roll, is a place “most pupils feel safe, valued and respected.”
Other strengths include strong leadership, close links with its local community, and tailored support for vulnerable students.
Headteacher Adam Lear said:"Fitzalan is an exceptional school that leaves a lasting impression on everyone who crosses its threshold. Our vibrant and diverse school community fosters a sense of belonging for pupils, staff, governors, and the wider community alike."
"We are delighted that the report recognises the outstanding contributions and commitment of our wonderful community. This achievement is a testament to the dedication of everyone involved, who work tirelessly to provide the highest standards of education, care, support, and guidance to our pupils. At Fitzalan, only the very best will do.”
The report made one recommendation - to improve the development of pupils’ digital skills across the curriculum.
Cabinet Member for Education, Cllr Sarah Merry said: "Fitzalan High School is one of Cardiff's largest and most diverse secondary schools and staff, pupils and the community should feel proud of this report.”
