Cardiff Bay multi-storey car park approved by council
Cardiff Council has given planning permission to a multi-storey car park located in Atlantic Wharf.
The seven storey car park (ground floor plus six upper levels) will include 901 spaces is part of a wider redevelopment which includes a new 15,000 capacity indoor arena, a hotel and new public square once the 28-year-old Red Dragon Centre is demolished.
The new multi-storey will be built on land around 1.4 hectares - roughly the size of two football pitches.
The council’s planning committee approved the car parking plans January 17 which will provide 754 standard spaces, 36 accessible spaces and 111 electric vehicle charging spaces.
Separate plans for a hard surfaced car park of 73 spaces were also approved.
Plans show that the car park will have a modern look - with aluminium twisted vertical fins that will make it seem as if the facade is moving.
The plans add that the look will be in keeping with the designs for the ‘will lend themselves to a bronze colour palette, to harmonise with the colour palette of the Arena and Hotel’.
