Bus stop improvements take place across the city

Cardiff Council is replacing more electronic displays at bus stops across the city at a cost of £1.1m.

The local authority is also making accessibility improvements to 25 bus stops across the capital.

Cllr Dan De’Ath, cabinet member for climate change, strategic planning and transport, told council in January that the plan to install 183 real time information displays between April and August 2025 was “proceeding well”.

There are already 170 displays in place, which give passengers enhanced real-time information, including bus departures, disruptions and other travel updates.

A total of 353 replacement displays will be supplied - all by Leicestershire-based business, Journeo, which had a £1m contract with the council in March 2023 for the first phase of replacement.

Labour Cllr De’Ath said: “These industry standard interfaces are a great asset, nullifying the need for local authorities to manage the back-office systems previously required to supply RTI predictions for bus services.”

The council is also making accessibility improvements to 25 bus stops in Caerau, Ely, Grangetown, Rumney and Tremorfa from January to March 2025.

These schemes are designed to enable bus services to pull into bus stops that are currently often blocked by parked vehicles, helping the elderly, disabled and families with young children to access bus services without having to step down onto the carriageway or squeeze between vehicles to get on and off the bus.
