The latest headline act in a series of major gigs taking place at Blackweir Fields this summer has been announced.

Alanis Morrissette will perform as part of Blackweir Live, taking place from 27 June to 2 July along with Kings of Leon, Courteeners and Noah Kahan.

Morrissette is now part of the line-up, organised by Depot and Cuffe and Taylor, despite being originally due to perform at Cardiff Castle.

In an email sent to Morissette ticket holders on March 3, the move is due to an “unprecedented demand for tickets” leading the promoters to “upgrade” the venue.

The new events series was announced in 2024, with concerts having the capacity of up to 35,000 people it would “be the city’s largest greenfield venue”, according to Cardiff Council.

This is still subject to licence, however, as Cardiff Council applied for a licensing application - for both live music and alcohol sales - on February 21.

The current licence allows events for up to 25,000 people and comes after last year’s Cardiff Music City Festival, which brought nearly £3.5m to the city.

Cabinet member for culture, parks and events, Cllr Jennifer Burke, said: “The announcement of these new shows at Blackweir Fields, hot on the heels of the first ever Cardiff Music City Festival, show just how central live music is to Cardiff’s future, and with good reason.

“Music’s cultural value is undisputed, but it also generates in the region of £100 million a year for the economy and plays a significant role in making Cardiff the vibrant, creative city we all know and love.”

What is in the licensing application?

The licensing application proposes the sale of alcohol to be consumed both on and off site from Monday to Sunday between the hours of 9am and 10.15pm.

It also requests that live music is allowed on site from Monday to Sunday between the hours of 9am and 10.30pm.

Residents can make representations to Cardiff Council’s licensing department via email at licensing@cardiff.gov.uk by 20 March.

Alternatively, in writing to Cardiff County Council, Licensing Section, County Hall, Atlantic Wharf, Cardiff, CF10 4UW.
