A man has been jailed after hitting a five-year-old girl with his car last March.
Kurtis Dwyer, 35, from Clare Road, Grangetown, struck five-year-old Casey Wilson on Sloper Road on March 24.
He was caught on CCTV speeding in a grey BMW which then mounted the pavement before hitting Casey and driving off.
Casey was taken to the hospital with injuries but made a full recovery.
Dwyer pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, and was jailed for 14 months on Monday, March 3 at Cardiff Crown Court.
In an interview with the BBC after the sentencing, Casey’s mother, Rachel Bancroft, said she feared her daughter was “dead that day.”
Officer in the case, Detective Constable Tamsin Hill, said: “Amazingly the little girl received only minor injuries, but the incident was understandably very frightening for her and her family.
“While we welcome the outcome at court, we acknowledge that the little girl and her family continue to suffer severe emotional impact as a result of Dwyer’s reckless and dangerous actions.”
