A new youth centre which will offer DJ’ing, podcasting and t-shirt making opened this March.
The centre is located at Cardiff West Community High School and will offer opportunities and support for people ages 11 to 25 in Ely and Caerau.
This includes open-access youth club and activities designed to promote personal development and well-being.
It will be run for two days a week by qualified and registered youth workers who will be on hand to provide guidance and support on a range of social issues.
The £175,000 project has been funded through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
Mike Tate, Headteacher at Cardiff West Community High School said: "Cardiff West is committed to becoming a truly community focussed school. We want to ensure that our facilities are available to support the community of Ely and Caerau.
“This joint initiative is truly sector leading and we hope can provide an engaging environment that ensures the young people in the area have somewhere safe and welcoming.
“Positive engagement, meaningful activities and cross service support can help reduce community issues and ensure all our young people can play a valuable role in the area."
Labour Cllr Peter Bradbury, cabinet member for tackling poverty, equality and supporting young people, said: "Through consultation with young people, access to youth provision was a key identified need.
“The new youth centre is a testament to the commitment of local authorities and funding partners in prioritising youth development and well-being, ensuring that young people have access to a safe, supportive space where they can learn new skills, receive guidance, and build positive relationships.
"By creating a welcoming and resourceful environment, this initiative will play a crucial role in shaping positive outcomes for young people in the Ely and Caerau community."
